May 16, 2021 3:00 p.m. Jen Schoonover: Dancing with the Scottish Dancing Masters
Jen Schoonover will explore the roots of present-day Scottish social dancing, including legacies from Dancing Masters and vernacular practices.Sometimes the dancing masters of historical Scotland get referenced generally, as if they all taught the same things in unified styles. However, varied repertoires and niches were important elements of this profession. In our May Third Sunday workshop, Jen Schoonover will introduce you to some Scottish dancing masters including Joseph Lowe, Dancie Neill, David Anderson, and Dancie Reid. We will try out some dances they taught, from dances you may never have heard of to popular dances taught differently than today’s standardized versions.

March 21, 2021 3:00 p.m. Early RSCDS Dances: Mostly from Book 1, brought to you by a team of more recently certified Branch teachers
For a “dancing” Sunday afternoon, a team of more recently certified Boston Branch teachers will lead you through dances primarily from RSCDS Book 1. The early RSCDS books present a collection of “updated” older dances, so this will introduce you to hints of our dance origins. The older dances are generally simpler than many more modern dances. December 20, 3:00 p.m. 60 Years of Reminiscences, Jeanetta McColl in conversation with Jen Schoonover
Jeanetta arrived in the Boston area at the beginning of the 1960’s and has been involved in all aspects of Scottish Country Dancing in the Branch since September, 1961. She has taught, organized and worked with almost everyone who has been involved with the branch since that time.
