May 11th, 12th and 13th, 2012
On Friday dancers gather for a Welcome Dance Party to enjoy dancing to lively jigs and reels and lovely strathspeys played by talented musicians.
Then, on Saturday, folks arrive for the reception to greet old friends and new. Men wear their colorful kilts and women dress in lovely gowns. Wine and appetizers are served followed by a sumptuous buffet meal. Then folks assemble for the Grand March. At the sound of the piper they march throughout the ballroom in designated patterns. When the participants complete the march they face the musicians, sing anthems, and hear greetings. An excellent band plays more than eighteen dances (jigs, reels, strathspeys, hornpipes, waltzes) throughout the evening. Before departing, the crowd encircles the floor, arm in arm, and sings Auld Lang Syne.
Then, the following day, folks assemble at the home of a dancer for a lovely brunch with live music and the Boston Branch Bookstore present. Weather permitting, there is dancing and more live music plus Scottish goods on sale.
